1. The Original Sin of Adam closed Heaven for all men (sanctifying grace was lost) ... Hell became the only possible destination for the immortal souls of men.

Catholic authored scriptures that: God commands the use of images ...
but not graven images (images used for idol worship)

Definition: A graven image is an image which is used for idol worship.

Introduction:

1. We are all familiar with the below scripture from Deuteronomy 5:8-9 ... regarding graven images but often times we don't hear about the next verse ... Verse 9 which discusses these images says not to adore or serve them.

             Catholic Faith (pre-fulfullment) writing in Deuteronomy 5:8-9 >
             8: "Thou shalt not make to thyself a graven thing, nor the likeness of any things, that are in Heaven
                   above, or that are in the earth beneath, or that abide in the waters under the earth."
             9: "Thou shalt not adore them, and thou shalt not serve them."

             Definitions of ... graven image:
             1. An object of worship carved usually from wood or stone: idol.
             2. An object made especially from wood, stone, etc. and used for religious worship ... (in other words, idol worshop)

2. We see below that God commands us to make images ... not graven images (for idol worship) ... but for the purpose of bringing people to the truth in the supernatural order, the Catholic truth.

3. When Catholics (of which there are very few) venerate statues or pictures of Jesus or the Saints, they are praying to God or to the Saint who is represented by the statue or picture ... they are not praying to the statue or picture itself. If you review Section 48 of this website you'll see that Angels, Saints, and other men are intercessors to help get souls into Heaven as shown below in Apocalypse 8:4. Saints are powerful intercessors because they are in Heaven, so praying to a Saint (who may be represented by a statue or a picture) to help us get to Heaven is encouraged as seen in the scriptures listed in Section 48.

Catholic writing in Apocalypse 8:4 > "And the smoke of the incense of the prayers of the Saints ascended up before God from the hand of the Angel".
(Note: Both Angels and Saints are depicted as intercessors in this one verse)

Catholic Faith (pre-fulfullment) writing in Exodus 25:18-20 >
18: "Thou shalt make also two cherubims of beaten gold, on the two sides of the oracle."
19: "Let one cherub be on the one side, and the other on the other."
20: "Let them cover both sides of the propitiatory, spreading their wings, and covering the oracle, and let them look one towards the other, their faces being turned towards the propitiatory wherewith the ark is to be covered."

Note: These images of angels are not graven images because they represent a Catholic truth (the existence of Angels) and ... they are not graven because they are not to be used for/in idol worship. God commands their construction.

Catholic Faith (pre-fulfullment) writing in Numbers 21:8-9 >
8: "And the Lord said to him: Make brazen serpent, and set it up for a sign: whosoever being struck shall look on it, shall live."
9: "Moses therefore made a brazen serpent, and set it up for a sign: which when they that were bitten looked upon, they were healed."

Note 1: God commands this image of a brazen serpent to be made. It does not meet the definition of a graven image ... because it is not to be used for idol worship.

Note 2: This is a foreshadowing of Christ on the Cross, a foretelling of a future Catholic truth. God can use images in this way, it is not idol worship because God simply instructs the Israelites to look at the serpent not worship it to be freed from their malady. This foretells looking to the Catholic Jesus Christ on the Cross, and believing the Catholic Dogmas and Sources of Dogma to be cured of the spiritual maladies of heresy or apostasy.

Note 3: An event like this lifts the soul to consider the supernatural.

Note 4: An event like this also shows that God knows every glance of our eyes.

Catholic Faith (pre-fulfullment) writing in 3 Kings 6:23-25 >
23: "And he made in the oracle two cherubims of olive tree, of ten cubits in height."
24: "One wing of the cherub was five cubits, and the other wing of the cherub was five cubits."
25: "The second cherub also was ten cubits: and the measure, and the work was the same in both the cherubims."

Note : God commands these images of the cherubims to be made, but they do not meet the definition of graven images ... because they are not to be used for idol worship.
