The image is on ayate, a coarse fabric made of cactus fiber and should have deteriorated after 30 years or so, since it is plant fiber.
The tilma (cloak of Juan Diego) has been fine and intact for 475 years to date. The tilma is on display at our formerly Catholic property of Our Lady of Guadalupe Basilica, Mexico City (this property is now under the control of the anti-Christ vatican-2 heretic cult).
Tepeyac Hill is the exact geographic center of the Western Hemisphere. If you were to spin the Western Hemisphere like a windmill it would
rotate around Tepeyac Hill. This is part of the reason why Our Lady of Guadalupe has the title, Empress of the Americas.
On Tuesday 12 December 1531, the Blessed Virgin appeared to Juan Diego again and asked him to go to the top of Tepeyac hill and cut the flowers
which were there. In the midst of December, Juan found at the top of the hill castillan roses. This was a rose that Bishop Zumarraga would have been
familiar with as he was from that part of Spain where this rose was from. Juan placed the flowers in his tilma (long, cloth cape worn by the Aztecs)
and returned to the Blessed Virgin.
The Blessed Virgin then arranged the flowers in the cloak of Juan Diego. Juan Diego returned to the bishop with the roses wrapped in his tilma and found the bishop in conversation with the new governor of Mexico, who had just arrived. When Juan Diego dropped one side of the tilma, the bishop gasped in surprise -- these were Castilian roses tumbling out onto the ground. Then all the men in the room dropped to their knees at the sight of an even greater surprise: an image of the Virgin Maria had suddenly appeared upon the tilma.

The ships (1) Nina, (2) Pinta, and (3) Santa Maria ... translate to: (1) little girl, (2) the painted, and (3) Saint Maria ... the Blessed Virgin "painting" an image of herself. The image of Our Lady of Guadalupe rapidly instituted Divine discipline in this area of the Americas approximatly 40 years after Columbus' first voyage. The number 40 is often associated with Divine discipline (the 40 day fast of Jesus Christ, Moses' 40 years in the desert). In 1979, Dr. Jose Aste Tonsmann, Ph.D. (graduate of Cornell University), while working at IBM scanned at high resolutions a very good photograph, taken from the original, of the face on the tilma. After filtering and processing the digitized images of the eyes to eliminate "noise" and enhance them, he reports what is clearly present in both eyes, human images. Dr. Tonsmann's study showed that reflected in the eyes of the Blessed Virgin on the tilma are those people in the Bishop's presence at the moment when Juan Diego unfurled the tilma. In 1929, Alfonso Marcue, who was the official photographer of the old Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico City, found what seemed to him to be a clear image of a bearded man reflected in the right eye of the Virgin. Alfonse was told to keep quiet of this discovery, clearly this request for silence came from an enemy in the Church. On May 29, 1951, Jose Carlos Salinas Chavez, examining a good photograph of the face, rediscovers the image of what clearly appears to be a bearded man reflected in the right eye of the Virgin, and locates it on the left eye too. Since then, many people had the opportunity to inspect closely the eyes of the Virgin on the tilma, including more than 20 physicians, ophthalmologists. The first one, on March 27, 1956, was Dr. Javier Torroella Bueno, MDS, a prestigious ophthalmologist. In what is the first report on the eyes of the image issued by a physician, he certifies what seems to be the presence of the triple reflection (Samson-Purkinje effect) characteristic of all live human eyes and states that the resulting images are located exactly where they are supposed to be according to such effect, and also that the distortion of the images agree with the curvature of the cornea. On November 24, 1921, during a period of government persecution (jew-masonry, as usual), a powerful bomb hidden in flowers exploded directly underneath the tilma during High Mass, and destroyed stone and marble in the sanctuary and shattered the stained-glass windows of the Basilica. When the smoke cleared, the congregation was amazed to find that the tilma remained untouched, and the thin protective glass covering was not even cracked, nor was anyone hurt. Catholic writing of Psalm 44:14 > "All the glory of the king's daughter is within in golden borders."
Psalm 44 describes a woman in the three roles of the Blessed Virgin (see Section 4 of this web site). Verse 14 can be considered a Davidic
prophesy of the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe given the gold rays bordering the Blessed Virgin on this icon, added later, the rays reflect this prophesy.
The book by Francis Johnson titled "The Wonder of Guadalupe" provides much detail on this apparation of the Blessed Virgin.
Words of the Blessed Virgin to Juan Diego:
Let nothing discourage you, nothing depress you.
Let nothing alter your heart or your countenance.
Also, do not fear any illness or vexation, anxiety or pain.
Am I not here who am your Mother?
Are you not under my shadow and protection?
Am I not your fountain of life?
Are you not in the folds of my mantle, in the crossing of my arms?
