Ptolemy II Philadelphus, King of Egypt (287-47 BC) ... sent delegates, among whom was Aristeas, to Jerusalem, to ask Eleazar, the Israelite high-priest (he wasn't a jew), to provide him with a copy of the Law, and Israelites (they weren't jews) capable of translating it into Greek. This compilation was the Septuagint Old Testament.
