Introduction:

1.  Catholic Sources of Dogma are ... to draw the unbelieving to the Faith, overthrow heretics, and confirm the faithful ... are only from the Solemn Magisterium of the Catholic Church ... not from the "consensus of the Fathers" or writings of the Ordinary Magisterium.

2.  The Solemn Magisterium Faith are the infallible Sources of Dogma of the Pope in union with the bishops of the world. The Ordinary Magisterium are all the other writings of Popes, Saints, bishops, cathechisms, martyrologies, etc. -- in non-Dogmatic venues. The Ordinary Magisterium can never contradict the Dogma of the Solemn (Extraordinary) Magisterium ... if it does you simply reject it as heresy and as not being a writing of the Catholic Church.

3.  The Church Fathers (the supposed source of the "consensus of the Fathers") ... are those Catholics who were taught directly by the Catholic Apostles. They had many writings in support of the Catholic Faith in defense of the Dogmas.

4.  Many heretics (playacting as Catholics) are claiming that if a particular subject ... has the "consensus of the Fathers" ... then that establishes a Dogmatic teaching of the Catholic Church. We will identify below why and how this is an impossibility.

5.  Many heretics (playacting as Catholics) are claiming that if a particular subject ... is addressed by many random writings in the Ordinary Magisterium ... then that establishes a Dogmatic teaching of the Catholic Church. We will identify below why and how this is an impossibility.

A way to attack the Catholic Faith is to ... invent a "new" source of the "faith" (a new "teaching authority") ...
as described in Numbers 4 and 5 of the Introduction.

This a very old offense against God, attempted by many other heretic cults such as ... "lutheran", "anglican", "evangelical", "baptist", etc.

The below citations prove the the "consensus of the Fathers" or the Ordinary Magisterium ... cannot establish Catholic Dogma.


Vatican Council of 1870, Session 4, Chapter 4, On the infallible teaching authority of the Roman Pontiff, 18 July 1870, Paragraph 6 -- Ex-Cathedra Dogma  >
"For the Holy Spirit was promised to the successors of Peter not so that they might, by His revelation, make known some new doctrine, but that, by His assistance, they might religiously guard and faithfully expound the revelation or deposit of faith transmitted by the Apostles."

1.  The "consensus of the Fathers" or the Ordinary Magisterium ... cannot establish a "new doctrine" ... they cannot establish anything that was not transmitted by the Apostles.

2.  The successors of Saint Peter expound the deposit of Faith ... not the "consensus of the Fathers" or the Ordinary Magisterium ... but the Pope in union with the bishops of the world in the Ex-Cathedra Dogma ... to draw the unbelieving to the Faith, overthrow heretics, and confirm the faithful.

"Now this supernatural revelation, according to the belief of the universal Church, as declared by the sacred Council of Trent, is contained in written books and unwritten traditions, which were received by the Apostles from the lips of Christ himself, or came to the Apostles by the dictation of the Holy Spirit, and were passed on as it were from hand to hand until they reached us."

1.  The "consensus of the Fathers" or the Ordinary Magisterium cannot establish any Dogma ... which was not received by the Apostles and handed down.

2.  The supernatural revelation before the death of the last Apostle ... is dogmatically defined here as the source of the Catholic Faith ... not the "consensus of the Fathers" or the Ordinary Magisterium.

3.  This Source of Dogma is infallible proof that the ... "consensus of the Fathers" or the Ordinary Magisterium ... do not and cannot establish any Dogma of the Catholic Faith.


Council of Trent, Session 6, Decree on Justification, Proem (Introduction), 13 January 1547 -- Ex-Cathedra Dogma >
"Christ Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our Faith, taught, which the Apostles transmitted, and which the Catholic Church, the Holy Spirit reminding her thereof, has always retained; most strictly forbidding that any henceforth presume to believe, preach, or teach, otherwise."

1.  The Apostles transmitted the Faith which the Holy Spirit always retained ... the "consensus of the Fathers" or the Ordinary Magisterium cannot establish Catholic Dogma.

2.  If you believe that the Ordinary Magisterium (Catholic writings in non-Dogmatic venues) ... can establish a Dogma of the Catholic Church ... you are automatically excommunicated from Christiantiy (the Catholic Church) and thus headed for Hell.

3.  Why are there heretics pushing the "consensus of the Fathers" and the Ordinary Magisterium as possible sources of Catholic Dogma ?

There are two main reasons ...

           So they can push the "baptism of desire" heresy ... completely condemned by the Catholic Church (please see Sections 7.2 and 7.6 of this site).

           So they can push the "ignorance gets you to Heaven" heresy ... completely condemned by the Catholic Church (please see Section 5.1 of this site).
