1. Windows XP (and earlier operating systems) do not seem to install the above listed character sets when the operating system is installed. It looks as though the Windows 7 operating system does install the Chinese, Japanese, and Korean characters.

2. The steps to install the subject character sets on Windows XP (and earlier operating systems) is shown below. Windows Vista computers may not install these three character sets with the operating system installation either.

For Windows XP computers:

A. Click on the "Start" button.

B. Click on Control Panel.

C. Click on the icon with the text label: "Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options".

D. Click on the icon with the text label: "Regional and Language Options".

E. This will open a separate window with three tabs on top: "Regional Options", "Languages", "Advanced".

F. Select the "Languages" tab.

G. The lowest box will probably already be "checked", if not click in the box ... "Install files for East Asian languages" ... select "OK".

H. You will prompted to insert the Windows XP Operating System CD-ROM or point to a network location where the files are located.
